CABLE PENETRATION THROUGH THE ROOF

Photographic records of actual deviations identified during Electrical & ELV construction reviews.

Projects and construction participants are anonymised.

EL-031 / CABLE PENETRATION THROUGH THE ROOF

PRIORITY / MAJOR

OBSERVED

Cable routing through the roof construction has disrupted the integrity of the roof covering. The specified cast-in provision for the penetration is absent, and the penetration has not been sealed.

RISK

Loss of roof covering watertightness may allow moisture into the roof construction and building interior, expose cable lines and building structures to moisture, and require opening up and reworking the detail after subsequent work has been completed.

WHAT TO CHECK

The working documentation and roof penetration design, presence of the specified cast-in provision, waterproofing and sealing requirements, and condition of the roof covering around the opening.

RECOMMENDED ACTION

Do not undertake subsequent work that restricts access to this area until the design solution has been checked. Complete the penetration detail specified in the design, restore the roof covering’s integrity, and provide the required sealing, followed by verification of the result.

PRIORITY / MAJOR

Priority reflects an engineering assessment of the recorded condition in the circumstances of the particular project. It does not replace a designer’s opinion, testing or measurements where these are required.

These examples show the format of engineering records. The final assessment takes into account the design documentation, design solutions and conditions of the specific project.
